Noise and Vibration / Simulation Engineer

£Competitive + 27 Days Holiday + Bonus + Pension

Malmesbury, UK, United Kingdom

Description

The role is to support the acoustic design and development of our class leading products with a focus on engineering simulation.

 This would suit either:

• an engineer with a noise and vibration background and an interest in simulation; or

• a general engineer (mechanical, fluid dynamics or similar) with existing simulation capability and an interest in noise and vibration.

All levels of experience will be considered, from graduate through to a more experienced engineer.

At Dyson we are constantly innovating and evolving our technologies for the products of tomorrow. Engineering great sounding products is central to what we do, and to support this we are growing our team and broadening our capability.

Dyson Overview

Much has changed since James Dyson launched the bagless vacuum that started our business. In the time since, Dyson engineers have invented heat-free hand dryers, bladeless fans, long-life LED lighting and even our own digital motor.

Today, vacuums represent just half of our sales. And Dyson has even broader ambitions still. With a future technology pipeline spanning 25 years, the next few are set to be our busiest yet. 3,000 new people. 100 new machines. And four brand new product categories by 2020. So get ready for the next big thing.

Market Overview

Home to our global Research, Design and Development centre and all of our Commercial functions, Dyson HQ is tucked away in countryside famous for the railway tunnels and bridges of Isambard Brunel, who revolutionised modern engineering. Our secluded location helps us to protect our ideas and stay independent-minded. Yet nearby are the fashionable cities of Bristol and Bath (where a young James Dyson invented cyclone technology).

The building is the heartbeat of Dyson. Over 2,000 people, including James himself, spend their days strategizing, inventing technology and telling the Dyson story to the world. From 2016, our HQ will begin doubling its footprint with an ambitious new expansion.

Function Overview

It takes real ingenuity to find new ways of doing things. Smarter technologies. Lighter, stronger materials. And quieter, cleaner power systems. Our Research & Science teams – scientists, mechanical engineers and specialists across each of product category – are the experimenters and risk-takers behind Dyson problem-solving. Whether it’s in-house development, sourcing outside technology partners, or driving collaboration with partner universities, we lead the way in finding the next generation of Dyson technology. Which is why anyone can find themselves presenting to James Dyson himself.

Accountabilities

• Support design and development using a range of measurement, simulation and analysis methods.

• Optimise and develop engineering simulation tools for noise and vibration.

• Summarise and communicate findings to project teams, including senior managers, company directors and James Dyson.

• Work with design teams to optimise our products and integrate new acoustic solutions.

• Identify potential new research areas which would benefit from noise and vibration technology development.

Skills

• A degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent

• Experience of finite element analysis or related simulation tools (e.g. boundary element, CFD, ANSYS, Comsol, Numeca).

• Experience of noise and vibration data acquisition hardware and software.

• Programming experience e.g. MATLAB, Visual Basic, Labview, preferred, but not essential.

• The proven ability to work as part of a team or un-supervised to an agreed goal or set of deliverables is imperative.

• A clear logical thinker with exceptional attention to detail.

• A proven structured approach to creative problem solving.

Benefits Overview

Dyson monitors the market to ensure competitive salaries and pension contributions. Beyond that, you’ll also enjoy a profit-related bonus, generous leave and life insurance. But financial benefits are only the start of a Dyson career. Rapid professional growth, leadership development and new opportunities abound, driven by regular reviews and dynamic workshops. And with a vibrant culture, flexible working hours, the latest devices and a relaxed dress code reflecting our engineering spirit, it’s an exciting team environment geared to creativity, innovation and ambition.
