Description

We have an exciting new position for an in-house commercial lawyer to become part of an engaged team committed to enabling Dyson’s continued commercial success.

Dyson Overview

Today, vacuums represent just half of our sales. And Dyson has even broader ambitions still. With a future technology pipeline spanning 25 years, the next few are set to be our busiest yet. 3,000 new people. 100 new machines. And four brand new product categories by 2020. So get ready for the next big thing.

Market Overview

Home to our global Research, Design and Development centre and all of our Commercial functions, Dyson HQ is tucked away in countryside famous for the railway tunnels and bridges of Isambard Brunel, who revolutionised modern engineering. Our secluded location helps us to protect our ideas and stay independent-minded. Yet nearby are the fashionable cities of Bristol and Bath (where a young James Dyson invented cyclone technology).

Function Overview

Dyson learnt an early lesson in the value of legal might, winning a gruelling battle against Hoover when it infringed our early cyclone technology patents. Our in-house legal teams have been at the forefront of Dyson ever since. From the information security experts and IP teams doggedly protecting our ideas. To the commercial lawyers and procurement specialists who solve our toughest business challenges across the world.

Accountabilities

  • Providing support on pre-launch product issues for commercial, marketing, sales and the Research, Design and Development area, with a particular emphasis on regulatory and advertising issues;

  • Advising on pre-launch advertising substantiation and testing plans;

  • Reviewing pre-launch marketing claims to analyse the risk of legal challenge/reputational impacts, including assessing scientific evidence for the support of claims

  • Supporting global advertising disputes (for and against the business) with the in-market legal teams;

  • Providing advice and support on consumer related issues and regulatory matters;

  • Providing training on advertising and regulatory areas

Skills

The successful candidate will have post qualification experience in either a commercial and/or regulatory role with a product focus. In-house exposure during or post training is a definite advantage. The ideal candidate will:

  • Have a solid background in commercial and/or regulatory law and an ability to apply that knowledge in a practical and pragmatic way;

  • Have worked in the health and wellbeing sector;

  • Have strong drafting skills and experience of contract negotiation;

  • Have good awareness of the role of the legal function in a large business and have the ability to contribute actively in the taking of key business decisions;

  • Have an appetite to learn new skills and the versatility and technical ability to deal with issues outside of their experience and learn quickly on the job;

  • Be able to work with a minimum level of supervision in a fast paced, constantly changing but supportive environment

Benefits Overview

Dyson monitors the market to ensure competitive salaries and pension contributions. Beyond that, you’ll also enjoy a profit-related bonus, generous leave and life insurance. But financial benefits are only the start of a Dyson career. Rapid professional growth, leadership development and new opportunities abound, driven by regular reviews and dynamic workshops. And with a vibrant culture, flexible working hours, the latest devices and a relaxed dress code reflecting our engineering spirit, it’s an exciting team environment geared to creativity, innovation and ambition.
