Dyson opened its new Singapore Technology Centre earlier this year. In this ambitious, top secret centre, some of the world’s brightest engineering minds continually push the boundaries of science & technology.










Dyson Overview

Things move quickly at Dyson. In twenty years, what began with one man and one idea has grown into a global technology company, with 6,000 people and a presence in over 70 countries. From Malmesbury to Malaysia to the US to Australasia and many countries in between, we’ve sold over 80 million machines.

And it’s just the start. From 2016 our Malmesbury HQ is doubling its footprint. The US, our biggest market, is doubling their sales scope. And new frontiers are opening up across South East Asia and beyond. More people, more ideas and more space for more invention. The next four years will be our biggest and busiest yet.

Market Overview

Our Singapore story began in 2004 and today we have more than 1000 people working here. At the beginning of 2017 we opened our new, state of the art, Singapore Technology Centre in Science Park I, minutes from Singapore’s technology and start-up community. This new Technology Centre houses some of Dyson’s most advanced facilities including Robotics and Sensors laboratories and Smart Home, Connectivity & Mobile Applications laboratories as well as an Advanced Control Tower with the latest technology to develop its analytics driven activities.

 

Not too far away is West Park, our flagship advanced motor manufacturing facility where we develop our autonomous robotic manufacturing capabilities – more than 300 robots assemble our Dyson Digital Motor (DDM) here. It is here that we develop our next generation of motor technology.       

Function Overview

RDD is the heart of Dyson. It’s where we invent technology that solves problems. Our engineers challenge convention, build, test, fail, refine, fail again. To be different takes courage as well as creativity.

Based in Singapore, you’ll be part of a 1,700-strong global team of engineers and scientists. From day one you’ll be working on top secret projects using cutting edge machinery. Whichever area you join we’ll support your development, helping you understand the business and grow into the role. And the rest is up to you. Accountabilities

Depending on where you fit best, you may have the opportunity to work in either of the roles below:

 

Electronics (Hardware)

  • Gain sensor knowledge, WiFi comms

  • Experience in circuit design, circuit drawing and LabView programming

  • Understanding in BLE Technology (Hardware and communication protocol )

 

Electronics (Software)

  • Participate in the software design, code implementation and validation of embedded software for the work products

  • Generate software requirement specification, design documents and test specification

  • Work closely with other team to optimize product performance

  • Maintain current and well informed on embedded software engineering methodologies and technologies

Connectivity

  • Develop tools to help the Dyson mobile app development process and to assist in the app evaluation and automation

  • Assist in the design and development of mobile applications for iOS or Android platform

  • Assist in the gathering of requirements for application functionality

  • Support the engineers for the testing and deployment of the applications

 

Power Electronics

  • To investigate the thermal behaviour of battery cells under different discharge power.

  • To investigate the thermal characteristics of cell cage with different cage design and materials.

  • Generate control software in a model based design framework.

  • Robust motor design

  • Project planning

  • Evaluation test such as thermal mapping test, black box and etc.

  • Design document such as design notes, FMEA, Failure analysis report, technical review documents and part approval, lessons learned.

  • Manufacturing process




Skills

The internship programme is competitive so you’ll need to be academically strong and have the right to work in the country of your application. You’ll be studying a technical degree, such as: robotics, electronic, electrical or software engineering.
