Things move quickly at Dyson. In twenty years, what began with one man and one idea has grown into a global technology company, with 6,000 people and a presence in over 70 countries. In 2000, Dyson moved production from Malmesbury to Malaysia to be closer to our supply chains and open up international growth. The small team of 10 has now grown to almost 1,200 – forming Dyson’s second biggest global hub. Located in the exhilarating industrial heart of Johor, it’s also home to RDD, IT, operations, finance, creative and HR.
The RDD facility is central to our plans to launch 100 new machines in the next four years. To meet these ambitions, we recently expanded the site to 30,000m², with 50 advanced technology labs and 700 new engineers. In the Dyson world, there’s no more exciting place to be.
Our Design engineering team is the idea factory of Dyson. It’s where we took the bag out of the vacuum. The blades out of a fan. And the heat out of hand dryers. With free-flowing curiosity and creativity, ideas are never in short supply. The key is deciding which ones could change the world and which should, for now, be shelved. This is done by the New Product Innovation team, who pass on the best ideas to New Product Development. Sketching, prototyping, testing, failing and refining follow. It can take months, even years. But those ideas that make it are big. The ones that transform markets.
- Project management:
Ensure good project KPI at all time and responsible for the quality of project deliverables.
Identified and communicate key projects risk (& issue) upward and propose resolution in mitigating the risk.
To review project transfer package from UK team to ensure smooth project transfer.
Overseeing overall development processes- CR, DR, PR, DFM, requirement, PA & etc.
- Operation/People management:
Optimise the allocation of resources for the most efficient operation.
Delegate task and responsibility to a team of motor/drive engineers and technician.
Ensure team follow the Dyson development processes.
Managing Lab operation and implementing the improvement activities.
Supporting engineering manager in team development and growth activities.
- Technical Development:
Continuously identify and develop new technical knowhow in various engineering discipline which include product knowledge, motor & power transmission design, failure analysis, CAD/PLM, Lean and Six Sigma.
Ensure that technical knowhow were properly documented and shared among the team.
- Degree with CGPA above 3.0 qualified in an Engineering preferably mechanical or product design
- Good knowledge in drive components such as belt, bearing, gear, pulley, grease
- Experience in product design environment – direct involvement in plastic part design, tooling, plastic injection molding, assembly process, statistical process control.
- Knowledge of modelling software (i.e: Unigraphic, Solid Edge, Catia, etc)
- Knowledge of programming software such as Labview, Mathlab, Minitab.
- Good knowledge of statistical techniques.
- High analytical skills
- 2-3 years in managing people
