Finance Manager - Direct

The Finance Manager - Direct will work closely with the Senior Finance Manager and financial administrators to help identify and quantify potential growth opportunities, unforeseen KPI’s, as well as the change enablers required to deliver decisions driving the business unit forward. This role will provide analysis and develop financial models to support high level strategic decision making. 

Market Overview

Dyson sells products in 71 countries, and it employs almost 6,000 people globally, one third of whom are engineers and scientists. The face of Dyson is changing rapidly. Three years ago 80% of Dyson’s business was full-sized vacuum cleaners. Today its digital motor powers cordless vacuums, robots, hand dryers, bladeless fans, humidifiers, purifiers and heaters around the world. This is just the beginning; we just launched our new Supersonic Hair Dryer and have a plan to launch many other new products over the next 3 years.

Function Overview



Partner effectively with Direct leadership to profitably grow the sales and profits of Dyson Direct Channels  

  • Prepare business plans, including annual operating plans, channel P&Ls, sales forecasting and ad hoc financial planning
  • Operating expense oversight including vendor and managed service economics, systems and tools, and fulfilment
  • Ownership of daily/weekly business reporting and monthly financial reporting, including expense management
  • Prepare price-volume analyses to identify market trends and profitability to the P&L
  • Provide timely explanations of variances between actual results and forecast/budget

Collaborate with the Direct team to deliver a best-in-class customer experience

  • Use consumer insights to evaluate and analyze the end consumer experience and build a cost-effective business model
  • Monitor service delivery effectiveness through metrics such as:
  • Average time to fill orders
  • Cost per order
  • Fill rate
  • Lost Demand
  • Make recommendations for continual improvement

Evaluate current and potential investment options for further growth

  • Model the impact of proposed potential future avenues of growth
  • Make recommendations to Direct Leadership
  • Determine the return on investment in Direct Channels that will include:
  • Direct Response campaigns
  • Dyson Service Centers expansion
  • Direct-specific promotions

Special projects and ad hoc requests

  • Identifying additional analysis as required
  • Making improvements and efficiencies to existing processes

Other Requirements

  • Assist Senior Finance Manager with continuous improvement projects, improved reporting/ dashboards


  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Minimum 6 years in an analyst role required
  • At least one year experience leading a team required
  • Prior experience working with a Sales and Marketing organization required
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; demonstrated competence in mathematics
  • Ability to partner effectively with operating and sales leaders, including managing multiple priorities on tight deadlines
  • Strong finance skills, particularly the ability to frame and execute frame and execute the analysis of investment proposals, and the ability to assess the accuracy of financial and operating data
  • Strong written and oral presentation skills
  • Advanced MS Excel and Powerpoint is required
  • SAP and BW experience is a plus
